IPowerweb / IPower clients enduring massive problems

Thu, 17th May 2007, 14:49

It seems that IPowerweb / IPower clientele are experiencing massive problems since Friday of last week. According to several Hostjury readers users of the IPowerweb / IPower service have been unable to check their e-mail since late Friday evening.

According to our sources it appears that Endurance International Group went ahead with their planned server migration without notifying any of their clients! The result is continuous problems and issues, clients unable to check their e-mail & unable to login to their web hosting accounts.

One IPowerweb / IPower user stated that technical support seems oblivious to the migration stating that the issues were a result of "Corrupt passwords" and would be handled within a few hours. Over five days later and the problems are still occurring.

We suppose the Endurance International Group name has another possible meaning. Just how long can their clientele endure problems!

I've been with Ipower for over 10 years with maybe 3 problems but this takes the cake this is criminal and they make it sound like it's our fault. I've been promised a call back by a supervisor three times with no call. I've been hung up on 4 times because I get so pissed and start demanding because being nice gets me no where and been playing ring around the different departments because no one will admit they screwed up. They wanted me to purchase new hosting packages for all my websites and all my clients websites to fix this problem I told them they were f-ing crazy. I've been down now for over 5 weeks and I should have been moved by now, but where too go? How is network solutions? Godady? amen? who is going to be around and stay around for awhile without farming support to the philippines. I can't stand talking to someone that is suppose to be a tech but they are reading what they are suppose to say to you regarding your question. Oh ya LAW SUIT count me in where do I sing up.

Good luck to all of you we all need it. any info on hosting would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Ron Smart

I am yet another frustrated ipowerweb customer. I will be moving my websites elsewhere--but I am very interested in joining a class action suit against this company--which has wasted hours and hours of my valuable time with their in-your-face incompetence and downright indifference! They don't deserve to be in business.

  4. Anne Says:

    Thank you, David.

Agree that a "HOW TO MOVE FROM iPower" post would be great. Not only might many of us join a law suit, but maybe one of the Top-10 providers would be interested in facilitating a move from vDeck if a block of customers were to move all at once?! Just a thought.

  5. Hostjury Admin Icon david Says:

    Annie,

As far as your account being migrated from iPower, you're going to go through hassles due to iPower's proprietary software, vDeck.

Your best bet is to ask the providers upfront (the ones in the top-10 list on our site would be a start) as to whether they can help you move from vDeck to another solution.

I can't offer too many recommendations myself, there's very few I know of that would offer the service.

    Ask them first-hand, I suppose.

Beyond the migration itself (data, databases, e-mail) there isn't much else to it.

I suppose it's time we make a 'how-to move from iPower' & post it publicly.

Apolgies -- I hit "submit" too soon and answering questions like item 2 in my comment above is obviously one of the main things this blog does well. I'm going to check out the "top rated hosts" and learn more. I still have the question about "HOW" if anyone can give a few pointers.

Again, thanks to all who are honest and generous with their time and comments.

  7. Anne Says:

Wew! I can only echo all of the comments above. Shocking what some of us long time customers are going through. But it's what is happening to our businesses that worries me most (in our case, a small one, but trying to serve our customers professionally).

Based upon this experience and what the blogs are saying, I intend to move the domain/web/email, but it is also listed through Tucows. Sorry I'm not as technical as many of you, so allow me to beg for your compassion. It would be a huge service to many of us to know:

    1) How do we move our account from iPower (when it's prepaid, domain registered through Tucows)

    2) What suggestions if any do you have of alternatives that would earn a Consumer Reports "best buy" if such a thing existed. (We're a small business).

    3) What else don't I even KNOW to ask because I'm so novice?

With great appreciation for any help

    **Anne

I've had the same problems as others here - hours of waiting on the phone only to be disconnected, live chat for hours with no response, e-mails from support with solutions that don't work -- can't get into my site because the password no longer works after their conversion.

Does anyone know how to transfer the domain name to aother host? I had difficulty with trying this before -- involves going to Tucows -- anyone here able to give specific instructions for how to leave Ipower? Thanks.

  9. Ken Says:

I have left several comments on this blog and I am very unhappy with the service they are providing. However since I run a similar business where i host a number of training programs for corporate customers I have similar problems. On one hand where I have thrown up so much venom I must also appreciate that they took upon themselves to update the php scripts to match their new environment. As soon as the tranfer was finished I went in to make those changes manually to the hundreds of PHP scripts I have and all the while dreaded the amount of work I will have to put in for a change that I didnt desire. However i was shocked to see that they had already fixed all of my PHP scripts with the corrections needed. Now the session_variable function is not working so my customers are getting logged off but i suspect that since they provided access to the PHP.ini file it is now our (webmaster) responsibility to turn it on. I dont know everytime they mess up, like the service goes down or some other problem I get SOOOOOOoooo mad at them but the reality of the matter is that I have not found another company that I could say for sure would be better. I probably have said this before that it is like a bad marriage.

Has anyone found any company that is any better?

Interesting reading.Things are certainly bad at Ipowerweb. I got an email telling me hosting was due for renewal and my card would be charged. This was six months prior to the due date !! After a week I got a reply apologising and to disregard the email. It wasn't much use because three weeks later they deleted my account and do not reply to emails. I run a website for a local charity and they dont have the money to be messed around.Over the last few years I dreaded the automatic renewal notice. There was nothing automatic about it. ! Each time the sites I have with them went down for at least 2 days before an email put things right--This time is different no repy at all. Is there a local consumer body to contact in their area?

  11. amy Says:

I did an experiment: I called iPower's tech support at the same time that I opened a live chat. I was 55th in the phone queue; 57th in the chat queue. It took exactly 55 minutes to get through to a "technician" by phone; 57 minutes for my chat to be answered. I still haven't gotten any response through email support--despite having a case number associated with it. Fortunately the phone worked out (the problem was on their end, which I should invoice them for, but I know how that'll play), because right in the middle of my typing my problem in the iChat window, the technician decided I wasn't there (apparently he didn't bother to notice the little message that's barely visible against the bright-pink background of their chat window saying that I was typing a message), and he disconnected me. I hate how much I'm thinking about how much I hate iPower.

THIS IS THE WORST HOSTING COMPANY I HAVE EVER USED! Broken site, broken email, bad 'transition' to 'new platform'. Sent me to a support page that says "We're sorry, the page you requested does not exist." Nobody answers calls because of 'heavy call volume'. No kidding! They are really messed up. Use another provider. Anybody is better than this.

    Nancy,

  16. Tim Says:

I have used this host since 2002 without any major problems. This year alone however, they once had my domain pointing to another web site and twice (including now) I lost my ability to log and and make changes. Twice I was on hold for over an hour and suddenly disconnected. My web site is now showing an old version from 5 Sept. It is updated regulary twice a month. All updates were lost and my ability to access my own domain is gone. I have sent them e-mails (since I get disconnected on phone calls) and after 1 week, still have no access to the site. They used to be one of the best. Sadly, they rank very low on customer satisfaction now. After years of sticking it out with this company - I as well, will be looking for a new hosting company that is dependable.

  17. Nancy Says:

This is ruining business. I lost all my emails, and have not gotten new ones all week. One minute my website works, the next it doesn't. I can't get into my files to update my website. Each day is more problems. I can't get thru to tech support; am put on hold and nobody answers. No returns to my email to them for help, either. I want to be included if anybody starts lawsuits. I'd like to change servers, but don't know where to begin or how much of a problem it would be. Anybody know of a good server that I can easily transfer files to? (assuming I can get my files!)

  18. karl Says:

I have hosted with ipower for 7 years - these last few days have hell and continue to be hell. I host 20 websites with them and every single one of them has had their frontpage extensions corrupted. NONE of my clients can update their own sites, all the form functionality is broken , no emails - its a disaster. I pulled my own 2 domains off and hosted with godaddy. Technical support is nonexistant - wait times are 2 hours plus and some crap manager CORY something promised me an email that i could forward to my clients explaining the issue was their fault never materialized.

IPOWER is a disaster I was to sue them . I had renewed recently for 2 years and npw have to incur new hosting charges cause i had to leave as they are not delivering the services I paid for .

I have a history log of all the efforts i made to contact them and they are doing nothing. They say they have a 48 hr. SLA on tickets this is BS - theses guys once were good but now are con artists .

I would encourage you to advise your clients to ditch and move to a more reputable host... i signed up with godaddy - anyone else recommend someone good ??

IHATEIPOWER.com is this taken cause it must be this months biggest money maker - they suck

lets sue these bastards into oblivion.

  19. Hostjury Admin Icon david Says:

    Robert,

My recommendation would be to migrate while you still can, they've been enduring problems for months now since the buyout.

    Run :/

  20. Robert Hullinger Says:

IPOWER is simply horrible. I am seeking others to join me in suing IPOWER for damages in a class action law suit. Anyone interested can contact me at processservers@psnwo.com (when IPOWER restores that email account...please allow 24 to 48 hours!) What a joke. Let teach them a lesson in court folks. Please join the class action suit.

My experiences mirror the others that have lost email service. I am a business and I am effectively out of business. My clients cannot contact me via email and it has been going on for days. They promise to have my email accounts back up in the next "24 to 48 hours".
