To put things bluntly: It appears EMC Web Hosting is going out of business as of Friday. On their website they request that all clients backup their content and begin moving to alternate networks in the meantime. I highly recommend considering some of the web hosting providers that offer free transfer assistance such as the ones on our list at Hostjury Reviews. After the myriad fiasco recently, the writing was on the wall but this was entirely unexpected in such short notice.
Quoted from the EMC website:
PLEASE BE ADVISED:
All EMC Webhosting servers & network equipment will be discontinued this Friday. All customers that are still hosted on the EMC Webhosting networks are advised to remove any and all accounts off network to another hosting environment prior to this:
Friday, November 12, 6pm PST
We highly recommend making backups of your website files, and databases to avoid loss of data.
PLEASE NOTE:
If there are any remaining accounts on the EMC Webhosting networks at that time, they will be deleted. Unfortunately, backups cannot be provided and migration assistance cannot be provided by EMC Webhosting at this time.
EMC Webhosting can no longer support this website, the network & its existing hosting environment following Friday.
Sorry for the late notice. Not our doing, however, we at least wanted to ensure you had some notice prior to the event, so you don’t lose your data.
Update
While it would be simply speculative to know the exact reason for the apparent impending doom awaiting Myraid Network clients on Friday, there are a number of publicly available documents that can provide some insight to the inner workings of EMC Telcom Corporation.
On January 8 2010, JP Morgan Chase Bank filed an action for judgement on an outstanding Promissory Note for ~ 200K against EMC Telcom Corporation, Kenneth McCoy, Andrea McCoy, Russell J Malero, and Nichole E Malero

Well SOMEONE is using their IP addresses to send SPAM. I keep getting spam from 208.93.148.nnn, which is still shown by ARIN to be owned by EMC Telecom.

UVHosting told us, one month and half ago, "There may be a
glimmer of hope."
Since then, many of us followed the required steps, fill up the forms, and
sent e-mails with no answer, no hope, no data.
EMC hurt our business, and UVHosting, with everything at hand to help,
decided to turn back and ignored us.
With a simple action, let us download our data, everything could be
different.
Do you think 6 hours of online access is something too hard to give us ?
I hope to keep it in my mind next time I have to recommend a hosting
company.
Regards to everyone.

There may be a glimmer of hope.
EMC Telcom shut down operations in November of 2010 providing customers with only days notice, leaving many without backups. Affected customers include those from Myriad Networks who were acquired by EMC/Erik Zeiner in late 2008, as well as EMC's aliases (i.e. EMC Web Hosting and EMC VPS).
UV Hosting has received a court order to obtain the some of the servers believed to be used by EMC Telcom's Web Hosting business. We should be receiving the servers around the end of December, 2010. We do not know what data is on those servers yet, but if you are among those people cut off from your data when EMC Telcom was turns off, there may be hope for you.
Please pass this on to anyone you think may have been unfortunate enough to be caught in the EMC Telecom debacle.
UV Hosting is now taking requests from those who want to see if their data can be recovered.
For more details or to make a retrieval request, visit: http://www.uvhosting.com/emc/
Please do not call us. Submitting the form is the best way for to get in the queue. We will send e-mail updates to you as we see what we have. Please be patient. There are at least 60 servers and none of them are labeled. We have a lot of work to do.
Note: UV HOSTING IS NOT EMC. UV Hosting was seriously harmed by the actions of EMC and its GM Erik Zeiner. EMC is believed to be non-operational. Zeiner is party to a lawsuit alleging fraud in conjunction with the Myriad acquisition and he is believed to be involved with http://www.mashedreport.com/ and http://biz-con.org/

Look at http://www.uvhosting.com/emc/.
Apparently there will be a way to get our data back.
Tue, 7 December 2010, 00:21
I just found out that Erik Zeiner also stole another company (UV2 Hosting) and they are suing for all of the equipment Erik stole. Cavecreek is holding that equipment. Search for "UV2" in Pacer.
I found Erik's cell phone / office number from googling around - 602.487.3099 / 480.584.6114 - you can call him if you need to know the status of your website/backups.

The main guy behind all this Erik Zeiner. You can find him at http://www.facebook.com/ezeiner1
He no doubt used all the money he made off Myriad Network and its customers to start up a new business.

Hi Reuben,
thanks for the information.
I have sent several emails to your legal department with complete invoice and server information and all I have received so far is NOTHING ...
At least a response would have been be nice but ignoring people that lost their livelihood, grabbing for straws to get any information is just wrong!
Thanks for you info at least now we know nobody is able/going to help us!

This is the reply I got from Cavecreek Hosting.
----------------
Hello Frank,
I apologize about the delay in reponse. CWIE is unable to provide access to EMC
Telecom equipment in our possession. Due to pending litigation which does not
involve CWIE, we do not have a timetable for allowing access to be granted to
existing EMC Telecom clients. If you have any further questions please contact our
legal department at legal@cwie.net.
Closing this ticket meantime. Thank you!
Kind regards,
--

Our account is still paid for up until December 2011. These CaveCreek.com dudes not hurting EMC anymore, they are hurting us.
They obviously received their colocation service payment from emc/us. What is the big deal to turn it on for a few days so we can get our backups, should they even still exist.
I don't get any cpanal messages since the 15th I guess my server might even be erased already.
Your server still sending messages, is a good sign. But it is no good if CaveCreek.com is so ignorant.
Wed, 24 November 2010, 10:01
@Bert et al,
My (ex-)server is power-up, sending e-mails and performing backups just right now. But external access is denied. Next time I'll setup a private VPN to avoid crazy providers.
cvie.net doesn't answer, they're as crappy as our former provider.
Wed, 24 November 2010, 00:49
I will never understand why emc screwed their customers over like this.
This is what I found out so far. Nobody knows if emc erased the servers before they did the big escape, and screwing all of their customers.
Cavecreek hasn't responded to any of my emails. and considering the situation I do not understand why. This is not a daily occurrence this an extreme situation where people beg for help and nobody in charge seems to care.
So disheartening! I give up, dealing with ignorant idiots is tiring me out!

People,
Please send e-mail to legal@cwie.net and hollyh@cwie.net, they are key people at the company hosting the servers. Enclose your IPs and invoices to support your request. They could setup the routes to our servers again, to let us download the backups. Provided many of you take the time to ask for their collaboration, the better. Don't wait, please do it.

We too have been severely damaged by the lack of notice and the shutdown, having been clients of Myriad for nine or ten years. It is a worst cast scenario for us, because our site, and the current backups vanished in an instant. Myriad had sold us on relying on their daily backups and we did not have recent enough whole site backups to get up and running again- we have had to rebuild everything from scratch and are still working around the clock. Thousands of dollars lost in revenue and spent in building anew from the ground up. We will participate in any collective action, and I appreciate the information posted here that can help us pursue our lost data.

So far nothing I sent another email directly to legal and the manager. I feel ignored. At least it was worth a try.
What kind of business is this hosting business, just horrible!
Tue, 23 November 2010, 03:40
Frank: 'They've harmed my business and my clients.'
That pretty much sums it up! Same here!
Status Update: I have received an answer that said that my email has been forwarded to a manager and the legal department and that i can expect an answer Monday morning. Monday is over and I have not received an answer. I think this is going nowhere but who knows maybe we get lucky ...
Tue, 23 November 2010, 03:17
Same here, been a customer of Neureal and then EMC for 9 years.
They've harmed my business and my clients.
I demand my Data.
Sun, 21 November 2010, 22:25
If anyone does contact CaveCreek and gets through to a successful and helpful customer service agent, please post the steps we need to take to recover our data..
Also, if anyone truly wants to pursue a class action suit against EMC, please post details here..
I've been a customer of EMC, or their previously known entities (Neureal) for 15+ years.. In the beginning there were problems, and limits, but as the company grew, so did I in my knowledge of programming, design, web development and design, etc..
I feel like someone close to me, but also a moocher of my money (monthly fee), stabbed me in the back, not to mention hurting my clientele and losing me more money..
BTW, I recommend InMotion for a new hosting company.. They are extremely helpful by phone, email and on the web (chat); both in setting up your server specs, to transferring any backup (those lucky enough to have) with ease to technical support on any level.. I am not affiliated with them, but am very impressed with their service, much better than EMC!!
